I have a problem with those if they don't say on the bar they are fake or layered gold. Just putting that on the package isn't enough IMHO.

It does say 500 mills, so I suppose hes being honest/vague. Its up to the buyer to know what Mills means.

I suspect by "mills", they mean thousandth of an inch of gold plating? So there's a textbook case of being deliberately vague but "legal" to get an impulse sale--like on HSN. Betcha there's pot metal beneath that gold--not even copper!

Generally, in the plating definitions, a mil is 1/1,000,000 inch or another way of looking at it, a new $USD is 4300 mils thick, so 500 mils would be less than 1/8th the thickness of a new dollar bill.

I don't even click on an item, if it is not priced correctly via like around 80 to 125 bucks on a 1 20th oz. gold coin in a buy it now situation, as you know there is a 100% chance it is plated crap....
I use my price range filter to eliminate all that junk from my screen....

How many uses are there for a gold plated bar besides getting scammed or scamming somebody? Is there that much demand for vaguely labeled gold plated props from people not willing to settle for spray painted cardboard? Is there some widespread fetish for stacking gold plated bars around the house to make yourself look rich?
Also I think you can get copper or other metals far cheaper than 12 dollars/ounce.

I've been looking for a way to get a lot of gold for not much money. At 500 million dollars worth for $12 it looks like a comfy retirement is in the picture for me after all these years of searching. Thank you!

Quote: How many uses are there for a gold plated bar besides getting scammed or scamming somebody? About the only other one I can think of is to use as thief bait. These would be bars left in a poorly secured place, such as a locked drawer. If a thief breaks in, finds the locked drawer, pries it open, and absconds with "the gold", he might be less likely to search the rest of the house for a hidden safe filled with the real goodies. Shrug. Of course, in that case, a partly hollowed out bar filled with some C-4 might prove interesting... especially when they try to melt it down.

Greedy Robber! Its not enough that you get $1500 for 12 bucks? Mr toppratedgoldcolectibles is working his fingers to the bone to pratically give you all his 24K BULLION 999 GOLD W FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING the least you can do is not begrudge him his few pennies.
