Please give opinions and later I'll show the holder. This one might surprise some.

I'm thinking MS64 due to the mark on the date and some other minor marks, but since you said "surprise" I'll go with MS65.

Seems to have MS details. Some denticle problems. Whether wear or strike not sure. Seeing as it will be a surprise no harm to take a shot here. AU58 (or either one down or 2 up:)

I agree with Indian1 on this, there is a problem with the denticles and it has a scratch. It could go anywhere from AU- 53 to MS-63 with details designation. We'll have to wait and see.

The rim is the big issue from an eye appeal or market grading standpoint. Without regard to that that coin is every bit a BN gem, it's just understruck where the rim goes off-center in terms of alignment. Truthfully, I don't know what they'd make of that. The mark along the date doesn't help the market grade, either. Please don't tell us they're calling this recolored or wiped or some stupid thing like that.

MS details, MS62-63 range, but mark on the date could drop it back to MS60 or even AU58. This should not be higher than 63 given the mark on the date and some tick/bag marks on the chin and on "One Cent". It's a beautiful coin nonetheless!

According to the general consensus, NGC is quite liberal on this grade assignment. But you can't get that past DavidZerbato on his first reply - he nailed it.

That's a very fair grade on it, actually. It's every bit a BN gem from a technical standpoint and they didn't market grade it down for the weakly-struck area on the rim. Give the coin the technical grade and let it compete in the market with the other BN gems with the fuller-struck rims. I like that approach in a TPG grading my coins. Let the market decide what it wants to make of that rim understanding it's rather presumptuous to just categorically grade the coin down for something like that.
