GoldRush you seem to have some of the same passions that I have, I have always sought out Seated halves. My preference of the two would be the 1863 s. It seems to be of a better grade 45-50 and it has a quarter of the mintage than the 1858. The 58 looks cleaned, but as a collector I would keep both!

I would like to have both ...but.. I helped a friend get some coins. I saw the seated half
and mentioned that I would like to buy it. The friend wanted one also . and ask if
I had one I could trade for it.

Rest in Peace

1863-S + civil war date halves are tough with original surfaces in that condition....hold that one.

Probably too late for my opinion, but I actually like the 58 better, less dings and a little more apparent luster than the 63-S. The 63-S has more arm chatter. I say this without having known anything about mintages until what I saw above. So with 63-S being lower mintage, it makes it a tougher call. Both are very very nice pieces, though. Tough choice!
