While my 8 yo son and I were at a yard sale on Saturday he spotted a Tupperware container marked "563 Buffalo nickels $30 OBO". Being in yard sale mode I offered $25 and the nice lady took it. I did the math later and went back and offered the extra $3.15 to clear my conscience and try to show my son the right thing to do.
Anyways, it's not really a big find, they are all well worn and the dates are not readable on most of them. I will go through them looking for the obvious strike errors and other things that may stand out.
Would anyone have any advice on other things to look for in Buffalo nickels? I've read about doubled and missing feathers, and three legged, but considering the condition issues I might be wasting my time. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,

Tom

Wow, great deal! Doubled and missing feathers can be seen on even dateless specimens. In fact, I have scored not 1 but 2 1916/16 dateless specimens that are now in certified holders. 3 legged also can be seen on low grade pieces.

Enjoy the hunt and post anything good or ask questions. Can't ask for a better deal than face value!
Rest in Peace

WOW! For face value or less, you can't go wrong. Even dateless Buffalo rolls command a little premium. Good score (& lesson for your son)

Thanks for the for the info. I have never sold coins before but these will have to go. I will probably ebay them after I go through them all. I will post any interesting finds.
BTW, mycrob I had followed your post about going through a huge lot of nickels a couple of years ago, great thread with a great ending.

Thanks again,

Tom
