What is your opinion on the grade of this coin. Seller claims it to be MS-65. I think it is a weak strike but it is kind of hard to tell from the pictures. Any Franklin experts willing to take a shot at it?

The weak strike didn't put the buckshot into Franklin's cheek, a shotgun did.

Having said that, I'm constantly amazed at the latitude given Franklin grades - I'm looking at a few MS65's at Heritage right now, in PCGS slabs, that wouldn't be more than 62's if they were Morgans. This coin might actually be a 65.

Don't go much higher than it's currently at. Another one will come along.

People are going crazy over these things. I am seeing people paying $10-15 above the latest values. I am going by MS-63 prices also as I don't think most of these grade better than that. It is getting so hard to win them even at this price. I am seeing more and more of the supposed easier dates going for higher and higher prices all the time. Getting tougher to complete this set. Same thing happened with the Mercury dimes, I gave up on them for now and thought I would get this set done first because it seemed easier.

I agree with you Irishraider, this coin is not that great. The surface of the coin is disturbing and is not usually what we see. Earlier this year I had a number of Franklin's that graded much better and sold for alot less.

Heres the lowdown: I wouldn't give this coin a 65 grade. Franklin appears bald on the top of his head because the hairlines are weak, and I can't notice any bell lines on the reverse. The dings on the face would take away from the grade as well. Id say a 63?

I think it may be a 63, the only reason I say that is because I have a 55 "bugs bunny" graded MS-64FBL by ANACS that doesn't have as many marks on it that that coin is showing in the pictures (although pictures can be deceiving)
