I have absolutely no knowledge of coins, but I found a 1776 Continental Currency coin and was wondering if anybody knew of the value of one of these. It is a bit dirty, but I'm sure if I cleaned it up a bit it would be in pretty good condition.
If anybody has any information on this can they post it here? Thank you in advance for your help!

I don't know much about that coin, but don't clean the coin, improper cleaning will REDUCE it's value!

First off absolutely do not clean it. Secondly, we are going to need photos to really tell what it is. Chances are it could be worth some serious $$$ but we will absolutely have to see some photos!
PS. Welcome to the forums!

Posting pics would help but you almost certainly have of of the millions of replicas floating around. A genuine example is a fairly rare critter and existing examples are by far outnumbered by replicas.

Most of these are known in pewter and all are very rare. Definitely need pictures.

I would say its fake because those things are very rare-at least $10,000 if its real.
I think its a replica.

Looks like one of the many cast copies out there. Where did you find it? These usually bring six figures at auction if genuine. Certification is a must.

No doubt to me that it is a copy. It is probably made of pewter or even lead. The casting looks very poor and there are hardly any details that can be seen.

From the pictures it is a cast copy.

Does that mean it isn't worth anything?

It's worth a few bucks more or less. Most Colonial collectors, myself included, would never be able to afford a genuine specimen unless we took a second mortgage out! I would be happy to have one like this to "fill that hole" Hold on to it, it is still pretty cool.

Pictures are impossible to confirm authenticity. Take it to a coin show and find some dealers with colonials or early American coins an get opinions. Or check with several local coin shops. Don't sell it until you are certain of what you have.

Thanks everybody. I have looked for a place around me to take it, but there aren't any coin places around me that I can find.
I will hold onto it, at least until I find a dealer or someone who can look at it in person.
Thanks Again!
