Stopped at a shop today and the dealer had a set of Lincoln proofs from 1955-1964. They were all at least PF-65. What is a fair price? I've seen some conflicting values and now I'm confused.

For older Lincoln proofs, value would be dependent on degree of contrast(CAM or DCAM designation vs. brilliant).

Thanks Bio. They were probably brilliant did not see much cameo. He wants $50 for the set. I'm torn.

No spots. They are not slabbed. They are in a holder that just says 1955-1964 Proof Lincolns. Very "upscale" shop. I had never been there before. They sell mostly jewelery.

I might pay $5 each for the wheats but the memorials should be much cheaper (less than $2). Again depends on how nice they are. 1960 Small Date would help the deal but I bet it's not.
If $50 is bottom dollar, I'd skip this one.

Yeah that sounds a little steep. It would take a lot of time to put that set together though.

Thanks. I kinda thought it was a bit much. But they were soooo pretty! LOL. The shop is like 40 miles away anyhow. Might be up there next week I'll offer him $30 and see if he bites.

You can get the Memorial Proofs in Brilliant on ebay for 1-2 each for the early 60's...59 is 2.50 or so. They look awesome still.

One day several months ago, I went to the coinshop nearest to me and saw a pile of proof coins on the counter. The owner and his son let me pick out the coins I wanted (1957, 1959, 1960 Large Date, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1968S, 1969S, & 1992S cents, and 1969S nickel, dime and quarter.) He charged me face value for the coins! But when I went back the next time (about a month later), he told me dumped all the other proofs (Probably around twenty-five to fifty dollars face value) at the bank.
So somewhere out there are tons of penny, nickel, dime, and quarter proofs.
