To my friends down south, I have become the owner of a 1971D Kennedy half dollar. I have checked in the Red Book of 2009 and it states that there are two varieties, silver clad and nickel clad coins. My question is can the nickel clad coin be picked up with a magnet and the silver one not be picked up with a magnet? Thanks in advance for you help.

A 1971D half dollar should be CuNi clad but a very few errors do exist on silver planchets. US nickel coinage is not magnetic either since it is only a 25% nickel alloy with the balance as copper. The clad coins have an outer shell in that composition with a core of pure copper.
