I have been looking at this coin for a couple weeks
And for some reason I just wanted it..
I ended up trading a coin for it.
I know I have some sort of sickness .. I see a coin .. and I have to have it ..

I am thinking some here are going like it and some are not.

It has the needed die gouge on the reverse near the rim above the "D"

There seems to be some red on the obverse (left side)

Negative is some grunge spots .. I am hoping BadThad will have some advice on if his Verdi Care might help restore this coin. Also has a couple black threads that look like they have been there for a while.

I did not want to touch it yet .. but that bottle of Verdi Care is looking at me.

Any comments are welcome .. grades .. likes .. dislikes

First picture is with flash

As opposed to NOT having one?

I like it! 2 slobbers!
(Can't do halves or I would have gone 2.5 slobbers)

The black spots are irremovable by any means without destroying the patina. Somebody has already attempted conservation on this coin, probably mineral oil (i.e. Coin Care), sorry to say it would not slab. That's the only reason I will continue....

That said....I do see some remaining verdigris below the portrait near the rim and it looks like a spot on the reverse between the AT in STATES. For those I would put a little on a toothpick (I prefer STIM-U-DENT plaque removers, pointer) and carefully apply small drops over the verdigris. Let it stand for about 5 minutes and gently tap and/or rub to remove the verdigris. Then dab off the excess with a dry towel and inspect. Repeat if needed, then allow the coin to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before putting in a holder.

Not sure your experience level with conservation, but you might want to practice on some junk coins before you dive in. Also, be VERY careful not to rub off the patina! I've accidentily gotten too aggressive with my rubbing and removed patina before....it's a sad moment. LOL

BadThad
Thank you for your reply.

I knew this coin had problems .. when I got it .. and I can live with that.
The coin I traded .. I had very little into and I like this much better

They all can't be pristine ... someone has to take care of the problem
ones too.

I am thinking this coin might be a AU details coin.
