When was the last time you found a Standing Liberty quarter in circulation? I got to thinking these are pretty rare in circ, but you can find Indian heads, buffaloes, mercs, and Franklins fairly easily enough. I've never heard of anyone finding a SLQ in circ or in a roll though. Have you ever found one or heard of one found?

I haven't found one in circulation since the late 1960's.

I used to see Franklins, Indian Heads and Buffalo nickels while growing up. Not so much anymore... I still get occasional Wheat Lincolns though..

I found a dateless coin in circulation in the early 80s. I almost never find any silver anymore. I think the only way people find them is when folks spend them at face after pilfering from a family member-usually kids

Never ever (Parents even stated to me that they've never seen em) In the late 60s , my mom started to try & save back old coins she found in change , I cracked it open last night to see what she had, sadly she didn't save back pre 64 quarters or dimes, however she did save back all the mercs, War Nickels, wheat pennies and Buffalo nickels she found. According to her , growing up she never saw IHCs or barbers.

When I had a paper route in the 50's, SLQ's could be readily found in change, but they were greatly outnumbered by Washingtons; I'm guessing people started collecting them then, as there were now a finite number. Plus, they were beautiful, and I think a lot of them wore out due to the design.

Probably when I had my paper route in the mid to late sixties. I remember they were pretty worn out even back then.

Another thing that made saving quarters and halves back then was the relative value of the coin! I delivered a paper that costs 42 cents (6 days a week, 7 cents)- for me to hang onto a half, or even a quarter, was a pretty significant piece of my spending money. Dang, I sound like my farther!

Never! But what a cool thing it would be. Growing up in the mid-1960s, very occasionally I'd get Buffaloes and Mercs in change from the drug store, and when I got older I remember seeing a Franklin for some reason. Wheaties were common. But never got an Indian Head.

I thought they were ugly when I was small. I saw a lot of them in the 1950s.
They disappeared quickley because they STAND OUT so much in circulated coins.

I'm guessing a lot of you are old to enough to have experienced that point where some things that were magic at one time don't have the same effect today, like that trip to the amusement park, the new model cars when they came out (back when one year actually looked diff then the prev year!), the new house (how big it seemed!), and the first time you got one of these coins; I felt that way when I came across my 1st SLQ - it was just such a striking coin! I know, it's just a quarter, but some things are like that. And, I know some of you will say that everything is still magic, and I say you are very lucky!
