Hey folks, Just uncovered this 1839 Bust Half. The original flip had XF on it, just wondering what you think? Thanks!

Well, it sure looks better than an EF to me- looks like it has a good shot at uncirculated. However, I cannot comment on its authenticity. You need to have a Bust coinage expert chime in.

Pictures are a little small, but from what I can see I would say it looks at least AU-55.

It looks to be strong AU but seems too bright so I would say it has been cleaned.

It actually looks darker in person, the reflection makes it look lighter.

There is really no evidence to call a con "cleaned" based on these pics. They're too brightly-lit. *If* the darker area in LIBERTY is, in fact, crud when the rest of the coin shows none, then maybe we can come to that conclusion. Otherwise, all you're seeing is a photographic artifact.

I really like Bust Halves. I spent way to much on a '29 model a while back. I would love to see closer photos in different lighting. From what I can gather from these photos you have a very nice coin. I would love to take a closer look.

Here's a pretty accurate scan, I found by leaving it in the flip the details don't get washed as out (though some details such as on the wings are still a little washed out). Enjoy!

Just wondering...how does the one with the dents grade higher than mine?
Thanks!

I like the first coin better also. I'm not a pro though. I would also assume the rim damage would be a factor
