Hi all,

This 1980 penny has a depression (slight concavity)in the area of her majesty's ear and cheek bones.
I think that is not stuck through grease as this are has all the details present but in depressed manner rather than being in a positive manner.

What do you think this is?

As you say all the details are there, so that rules out Struck Through Grease, the only other options would be faulty planchet or PMD.

If it was a faulty planchet, then the details should not be as evident as it appears, so that really only leaves PMD, and if it was PMD as in being hit with something hard enough to cause an indentation, then I expect there would be a corresponding mark on the reverse, but there isn't, so it's a mystery.
