Along with the Walkers in the box of halves I went through today, there was this:

Funky-84-Kennedy-Half...

On edge I thought this was another silver coin, which it is not. And it seems polished, but dont think it is. But the main thing is those counter stamps. Anybody have any ideas on this?

Could been a # of things, Anniversary, birthday. With the 2 dates I tend to lean towards a birth & death years. Sorry, if this sounds like gloom & doom. Not meant to.

I have a Kennedy half counterstamped like yours with the dates 1963 and 1985. It was gold plated and my dad gave it to me in my stocking for Christmas in '85. I've seen a few of these, but they've all been gold plated, but with various dates to commemorate Kennedy's inaguaration or death, and then the current year it was stamped. Never seen one not gold plated, though.

Yeah, its something I have never seen either. And the dates dont make sense. Birth and death would work but that death date is 80 and its an 84. Why would someone do that 4 years after the death? 60 is when Kennedy was elected, but 80?

I have two gold plated counter-stamped like that. One is a 1983-D stamped with 1960 and 1980 and the other is a 1981-P stamped with 1960 and 1985. Also, a D bicentennial that appears to have been chromed (no stamps). They came from what appeared to be another roll hunter's dumps.

I have found a few of those now, they all seem to have differnt dates and sometimes they are gold.
I would say PMD and throw them back, unless you like to keep those sorts of things.

Keeping it only because I find it interesting. Just wish I knew exactly what the dates are for.

And yeah, now that you say that, it IS chromed. Thats why it looks polished kinda. Huh. Weird.
