I'm sure that someone has posted links like this before, but I couldn't find them. It's for companies that make Spy Coins. http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/tools/b308/ - http://www.spyville.com/spy-coin-hollow-coin.html and Sears even has them as a "Computer Accessory." http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...PM218731441PNow while it's kind of cool, I can see all kinds of things that could be hidden in them and used to move drugs, notes, exact-o blades, etc. in a place like prison or a drug rehab. I don't ever recall a need for an item like this and I'm sure it's used more for less than proper transport of, let's just say "stuff." What do you think. Would these coins be used for legal items? Or is it a way to smuggle small amounts of contraband and steal data? These look great! I may order one to check out the workmanship on the coins and see just what fits. Handcuff keys come to mind if you could find an Ike. It would stand out more, but still, it's just a coin and you could always say it's your lucky dollar. Would you buy one and how would you use it? It's all just theoretical. What could you see them being used for? ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

I could only see this item being used for items such as drugs and other contraband. I don't see a logical use.

Gary Powers (U-2 pilot shot down over USSR) says they were issued a half dollar (I think it was a half dollar) in a necklace that had a needle that could be removed that held a suicide dose of poison. He says this wasn't thought out well because the American coin makes an excellent souvenir to take off of a downed pilot. He talks about being interrogated when one of the interrogators begins messing with the coin. Powers fears the guy will accidentally kill himself and then Powers will be in a whole new world of hurt so he explains what it is and to please be careful with it.

During the cold war there was one case of a spy using a hollowed out nickel for smuggling microfilm. In today society you could hide a lot of data in a nickel but it seems unlikely that anyone would bother doing that. There really isn't enough room in a hollowed out coin to be a practical hiding place for drugs. And as tokenmast said they don't allow you to have real money in prisons or rehab.

I see this product as nifty but kinda pointless....I mean with all the soda pop cans, books, canned food disguised as safes, why would you choose something this small.

You can make a set of coins like the Matryoshka Dolls. Just start with an 1854 Type I Gold Dollar, inside an 1873 3 Cent Silver, inside a 1794 Half Dime, inside an 1889 3 Cent Nickel, inside a 1796 Quarter Eagle, inside an 1856 Flying Eagle, inside an 1889 3 Dollar Gold Piece, inside an 1857 Nickel, inside a 1795 Half Eagle, inside an 1880 Stella, inside an 1873 2 Cent Piece, inside a 1795 Half Cent, inside a 1916 Quarter, inside a 2000 Cheerios Dollar, inside a 1795 Eagle, inside a 1793 Large Cent, inside a 1796 Half Dollar, inside a 1933 St. Gaudens, inside an 1875-S/CC Trade dollar, inside a 1794 Flowing Hair dollar, inside a 2008-W with the 2007 Reverse, inside of a 2011 5 oz. ATB. Sure you have to ruin a few coins and you would have to cut them just right to keep them from moving around, but what a cool thing to have! I may have left out a few coins that would work for this, I didn't allow for thickness and I may have a coin or two in the wrong order. I also didn't use coins that were only a tenth of a millimeter or so apart, but I got a headache and had to stop.

I have access to a machine shop. I have always wanted a project for it. Now I have one. My only problem is being able to damage some coins for the sake of this. Okay, maybe I do not have a project after all.

Good idea. I will be on the lookout for some damaged coins now. Maybe this is an excuse to start searching half dollar rolls again, since that is the size I would want to use.

You could get one of those small micro drives and put a catalog of your collection on there complete with photographs for insurance purposes. Just as long as a thief doesn't steal the nickle too.
