I have been watching this circulated pattern half and I wondered if Moe145 would be interested in this oddity.

That is a lovely coin with the "God Our Trust" motto. It looks to be very sound with no condition issues. Has lots of eye appeal. I'd say go for it if that is what you wanted to know.

That's weird. Nowhere in the auction does he make any mention of the fact that it is a pattern coin.

I'm left with the mental picture of the seller sitting back, watching the auction approach $1000 in stark amazement.

I would love it! (I'm a big fan of all oddities!)

At this stage, though, it's a bit out of my price league. And my Dansco doesn't have a slot for a beautiful Pattern Half Dollar like this one!

I do wonder if the seller knows what he has...

Looks like the Judd-295 pattern, rated R-5. Heritage sold one graded PCGS PR-62 last September for about $1900. One month earlier a PCGS PR-63 example went for $2300. Looks like they aren't extremely rare and the current ebay bid of $810 might be about right for a circulated example. For the collector that really wants one it might be a better investment to spend the extra cash needed to acquire a PR-63 (or better) example.

There are several denominations of patterns that use God Our Trust as the motto and they are dated a year or two before the first official IGWT coin (the 1864 two-cent piece).
