Over the past couple of days I've needed to take some quick good pics of some coins. One pic of a 1909 VDB cent for a separate topic that I posed in a different forum, and a couple more to possibly list on E-bay.

I had started to read and, as usual started to over complicate taking a picture of a coin and gave up. My biggest issue with the pics I was getting was that the flash was washing out most of the coin due to how close I needed to get, so I had tried different angles, turning the flash off and using laps and other lights....but then on a whim I folded up a cheap cotton white glove used for handling coins and held it over the flash while taking the pic. I dunno, but it seems to me its doing a pretty good job, now I just need to document how many folds, etc, because the lighting is inconsistent from pic to pic, but it seems to be a good starting point to diffuse the flash light and I'm getting really good detailed pics.

I'm using a Nikon Coolpix s202, flash on, macro mod, with a white cotton glove folded up at least 4 times holding it over the flash.

Here are some of pics:

I've taped white paper over the flash and gotten good results too.

Great pics and very clever solution!

My flash has a built in, pull out diffuser with a small white reflector card that works the same way you're using the glove. It gives me some really nice control of the amount of flash.
