The only thing I could find is that they are just getting into bullion production and one operation, Ivanhoe Mines is selling what they call Dore' bars to precious metals dealers in South Korea. It sounds like no bullion coins are available yet.

If I am not mistaken, it was South Korea who won the right to host the 2018 Olympic games yesterday. So if they can get some silver coin production up an running within six years, there is a good angle on a coin....

Yes, they did... and I will be stunned if there is not a whole series of silver bullion medals produced to commemorate the occasion.

So it seems as if they don't have any bullion coins. I think North Korea has silver coins

A minor sidenote: I have this old travel agency brochure from 1988 for South Korea. In there it says that tourists/visitors must claim their precious metals and even pocket watches (anything with value) upon entering. Keep that in mind if any of you guys do globetrotting trading.

I was in Korea the year before they hosted the Summer Games in 1988. Even then they had a lot of Olympic coins for sale to help fund the construction of the new stadium and other infrastructural improvements that were necessary. What a wonderful place to visit. That was one three month vacation I'll never forget.

I was a bit confused as I when I heard that South Korea had won the right to host 2018 games, as I thought I heard them say this was a first for Asia, other than Japan in 1964. South Korea held the summer games of 1988, so they did not produce any commemeratives?

There are 1988 Olympics Gold Coins but they were minted in the U.S. At the West Point mint. They have the godess Nike on the obverse and there are some for sale on ebay right now. South Korea also issued a bunch of Silver and Gold proof coins in 1986,1987,and 1988. Edited by junior e
