My local dealer has the following for sale:
1882CC GSA 1883CC GSA 1884CC GSA
They are all in their original GSA slabs, not sure if boxes and COAs are included though...I didn't ask. They are $210 each.
I know these are common years, but are any of these worth picking up? I have a very small coin collection and I'm looking for longterm appreciation of my coins. Are these a wise decision?

That sounds like a pretty good price. Do the coins have many bag marks? Are there any serious rim damage problems?

1882 CC GSA MS60 $213 1883 CC GSA MS60 $201 1884 CC GSA MS60 $201 numismedia collector value They could always grade higher for a higher value. There is always a mystique with CC coinage!

Do the GSA's typically grade around MS60? Or, are they typically lower or higher grades?
I need to study the coins better on my next visit....I wish I was able to grade Morgan's better too.

GSAs should be MS60 at a minimum since they never circulated.

They are typically lower grade UNC's, however there have been a few gems in GSA holders as well, and just about every grade in between MS60 & MS67. I just found out that some of the GSA's (non CC)were circulated (not many); http://gsadollars.com/GSA_Hoard_History.html

thanks for the link! based on that link, you can purchase them for around $190 in their original holders....it looks like the $210 is not worth the investment unless it's a particularly high grade coin?

Lowlife - I agree, pass on em.
I've got some nice CCs 63s and 64s, cherry picked for minimum bag marks and good lustre. My intent is to finish up with GSA NGC certified MS 64 or 65 with all original packaging and COAs for the 82, 83 & 84. I got the 83 in March, a nice 64, for $215. Bide your time and wait for the right opportunity.

210 is about what they sell for anywhere you look so its not a bad deal but definitely not a great deal either. If they are graded and they are below MS-64 it is a bad deal because most people if they get a MS-63 from NGC (which most of these are, I have seen. would make more if they peel the label off the holder because graded MS-63 coins usually sell for around 180 on ebay the last time I checked. If you know how to grade you can get a good deal on GSA coins just like any other, but most I have seen are 63 and below and if you pay 200.00 for those you may never be able to make your money back. Of course I am talking about complete GSA sets here with box and COA when I list these prices, not just the coin in the GSA holder. Now I am going to address if they are worth having for long term, I love GSA Morgans myself and maybe one day even the more common ones will go up in price because NGC is the only TPG that will leave them in their original case when graded. So that means means to me all the coins that are sent to PCGS and ANACS are not any longer, so the more that get sent to those two the less there will be in original case and actually one in an original case already sells for more than one graded by either of these companies now. This is one of the places where NGC coins will sell for more than PCGS coins of the same type and grade

We were at a farm auction (believe it or not) two weeks ago. The reason I went - three GSA dollars listed. 82, 83, & 84. They started the auction, win the bid, and get the choice of any of the three. The 82 was MS64 or 65. The other two were 60/61. They sold for 225 each. I stopped bidding at 200. These did NOT have the COA/box/etc.

On average the 1882-84 GSA CC's grade MS-62/63. If you are looking for any or all of those dates for investment then you should look for an NGC graded MS-65 or better coin. Ed ANA Lm-3175

auctions have people who will always overpay for coins. I used to get 30 to 40 dollars 10 years ago for commonn circulated morgans at a monthly auction I attended.
