It's most likely a copy, but you never know when you'll hit something rare and real.

I hope it's okay to make a non-coin post, if not, mods, please feel free to remove this.

I live in a town with about 2000 people and 90% of them drive SUVs and Pickups. One day I went to the Post Office wearing a Formula 1 Ferrari Team shirt and driving my Lotus. An older man asked me why someone in "Tiny Town", TX would have a shirt like this and a car like that. I told him I was a Motor-Sports Photographer and the I loved Ferraris. He paused for a minute and said, "I have a few in a warehouse just outside of town if you'd like to see them." I was able to talk him into letting me photograph them and met him 2 hours later only 5 miles from my house.

He wasn't kidding. He has one of the rarest racing cars in the world. It's a 1962 Ferrari-Drogo Bodied SWB 250 GTO built by Bizzarrini, and was raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and many other FIA championship races in the early '60s. They built only a few and most were destroyed in racing accidents over the years. As far as I found in my research, only 2 still exist today.

It was kind of like finding the location of a 1933 Saint-Gaudens only worth MORE.

He told me I could take pictures, but I couldn't tell anyone the car's location and I would be one of only 3 people in the world who know were it is. The car alone has to be worth in the $8 to $10 million dollar plus range. The other Ferraris he had were street cars, but still worth about a million dollars each. He also had an Alfa Romeo race car that's worth several hundred thousand dollars.

I wound up talking to him for more than 2 hours about cars and racing. I even recorded the conversation. I went home and looked up the car and found out what it was and then who he was. He AND his wife were a professional racers in the 1950s. The car has a history that rivals any other race car built. I found 2 pictures, stories and read that the car had sold several years ago and had then disappeared. No one knew where it was today.

I don't know if anyone knows about racing Ferraris on this forum, but if you look up the Ferrari "Bread Wagon" you'll see the sister to his car. The Bread Wagon is one of the most famous Ferraris ever raced. I have a few 100 photos of his car that I could sell for a lot of money and I could write an article to go along with the photos, but I don't want to make money off of one of the nicest men I've ever met without his permission. You can find 2 or 3 photos of his car on-line, but I have detailed photos inside, outside, over, under and from every angle.

It's one of those 1 in a million stories. The cars have been there for 15 years and rumors of them are all over the racing groups. I know the truth, but no one will ever here the gentleman's name or location from me.

On a strange side note, I had a man looking at my Lotus at a car show. He told me he had a Lotus Type 51 race car that he bought new back in the '60s. He even had video of him racing the car, he gave me a copy. In the video I saw the owner of the Ferrari. As it turns out that HE is the only other person to know about the location of the Ferrari. He's a good friend of the owner.

Small world isn't it.

Because of this, I'll never discount a story as just a rumor, I'll at lease try do some research first.

"Made of silevr metal"

I don't see the problem. He clearly states it is not silver.

"I am NOT FAMILIAR with this coin !!"

He seems to have sold several coins and banknotes that are historical. Why can't he look this one up?

"But I guarantee you got the coin from the picture."

See all clear, he can always say if it is a copy the picture was a copy. :-D

Well, first, cool story!! Second, pertinent to the OP about researching. While they are very very rare, some true gems DO show up on ebay where the owner has no clue, or more importantly, hasn't done any real research themselves.

What is the word at the bottom of the coin that he has outlined in red? I can't make it out. It almost looks like "LRRORA" to me....

I do believe sometimes people selling rarities on ebay but in 99.99%they are not.Why risking 6000$ coin(probably much more)to sell under 20$ instead of proper auction?Fishy from beginning to the end.

as I receive notifications from ebay about listings containing "100 zloty", just recently I have seen the same guy selling: the 1922 100 zloty "Jozef Pilsudski" (mintage 60) with a catalog price of about 1500usd for VF and about 11500usd for UNC:
the listing had the same description, and started at 0.01!:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...:RTQ:CA:1123

sold for $558.78

i wonder if that's too good to be true, or if the same description is used too often to be a coincidence)))

valdiman Interesting coin

I would put in the Fantasy until proven real category.

When a seller goes private he usually has reasons - NOT GOOD ONES. That alone is a huge red flag.

The recent negative and his defense to the buyer's comment shows he is untrustworthy or very stupid.

The title of the auction was:

Quote:
Jewis Ghetto BANKNOTE 50 Konigsberg

The buyer replies in his negative assessment of the item:

Quote:
Item description is deficient: there were no Jewish ghetto & J banknotes in Koni

Seller's reply:

Quote:
READ DESCRIPTION The banknot was Stamped JUDE (JEW) not JEWISH GHETTO !

Well, I for one did read the item description AND ALSO THE TITLE. But I believe it is the seller who misled the buyer. "JEWIS Getto BANKNOTE" sure sounds a lot like a Jewish Getto Bank note to me.

Secondy - the seller is not a seller of DVD's who happens to have one coin but presents as a dealer in supposedly rare numismatic and historic items. There is ZERO reason for him not to have such a rare coin authenticated and SLABBED by PCGS if it is real. That would remove the gamble and get him BIG $$$$$$$. So who is the wishful thinker ?

Before ebay got on their privacy kick to protect the frauds and counterfeiters, it was easy to warn bidders who were over their heads on fakes. I used to write to bidders all the time asking if they suspected they were bidding on a fake. I made a couple very good friends that way who initially didn't believe me but changed their minds once they got the coins and could not return them.

But now with the new ebay privacy protection systems in place it is virtually impossible to identify a bidder unless you know every individual's personal feedback number. But a private listing like this one makes even this info unobtainable.

If this coin is REAL PROBA - I would be SHOCKED.

I also noted that this fellow sold the same item on consecutive days - to different bidders. So he is a magician too. Here is feedback he received on May 31 for an Orengeburg Concentration Camp note.

Quote:
Thank You ,, the very best Seller
Member id trebron2musik ( Feedback Score Of 1967)
May-31-11 08:14 ORANIENBURG Concentration Camp BANKNOTE 20 swastica (#320692021059) US $26.00

The next day May 4th he sold a second identical note with the same inverted stamp and same serial number on the note. He received this feedback on May 26th:

Quote:
very good seller, very nice note, recomendated+++++
Member id 915franci ( Feedback Score Of 151)
May-26-11 12:31 ORANIENBURG Concentration Camp BANKNOTE 20 swastica (#320694351927) US $25.00

So he either had two copies or one of the buyers had no idea he got a different banknote

I am breaking up a HUGE collection of old stamped material for the estate of George Perkins. Included are 10s of thousands of postal marks and cancellations of all types and ages. Many are from WWI and WWII Germany. I am VERY SUSPICIOUS of the color on many of his items being TOO uniform and applied with far too great a REGULARITY of pressure. Hand stamps of this age should show differences in color based on how they were used and stored and the angle of application should in my opinion cover a wider range of possibilities. I think who ever said the seller has made up stamps of his own is 100% correct. I would also wager the red ink all comes from one and the same stamp pad.

As for his other auctions, EVERY ONE I have reviewed - is IN MY OPINION FAKE.

Good luck to bidders buying from this guy. FRAUD is written everwhere.
