Going through my two week pile of mail I found this. Purists may not appreciate it, but it's pretty cool...

It's a beauty; I have several D.C. Moonlight Mint coins, they are among the greatest looking in my collection...

Can you tell me a little more about that coin? I cruised on over to the web site and all I could find on that particular (sold out, by the way) one was:

Quote:
Private high-quality over-strike on genuine non-proof 2009 Silver Eagle coin. Do not attempt to use as legal tender. NOT endorsed or approved by the US Mint, US Treasury, or US Government.

Did they do anything besides add the DC mint mark?

CelticKnot - US did not offer an official 2009 Proof ASE...so, this is a 3rd party mint that "created" one....that's the long story, short. :)

Thanks, guys. I had forgotten that there was no US Mint 2009 ASE proof, so that helps.

And from those two other CCF threads it sounds like Moonlight Mint used a 2009 bullion "blank" and just added the mint mark?
