I want some help for some third reich coins, please. I am interested to buy a few and I found some in ebay like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/GERMANY-3rd-REI...em3cb99ae3a4but it costs $4 with postage costs. How is this possible when the world coins catalog says that its value is 140? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

My apologies. I was looking at the "1940-1945 Common date proof". By the way, what does this means and is worth so much more?

Zinc coins in top condition can have quite some value, because zinc is such a reactive metal over the long term.
I have a few zinc coins from wartime Europe, and I have considered coating them with inert acrylic laquer.
I would appreciate some opinions. (IMHO's)

Quote: "1940-1945 Common date proof". By the way, what does this means and is worth so much more? It is my understanding that this means that, whatever year (between 1940 and 1945 inclusive) the coin bears, the price is the same: $140. Proof coins were specially made for collectors, usually with much lower mintage than circulation strikes. I would appreciate some opinions. Anything that keeps the zinc away from moisture would be good. A 2x2 would work just as effectively as waxing, and be much easier to replace once it wears out.

You want to tell me that while in the biggest war in history the third reich Germany was thoughtful about coin collecting?

Germany is a country and doesn't think for itself. The people working at the mint(s) however obviously did think that way - and making proofs can be part of the coin producing process as part of their quality control systems.

Ok Thanks for the answer but can someone express his opinion about the authenticity of the first post coin?

I think the coin is fine- while low value coins aren't immune from the fakers - I think it unlikely that there would be many fakes of these about given they are quite common.
For low value coins it's pretty essential to get them in UNC.

I have searched the whole ebay and I just can't find an UNC third reich coin! Can someone give me some advice about where I can find one? It is essential for my collection.
