It has been a while, but it was brought up before.

Supposedly the card companies and/or the mint were going to start treating the direct ship purchases as a cash advance, making them ineligible for points or mile. It would seem they are still working on the honour system regarding the terms of purchase.

I thought this loop hole had been closed and the mint now charge a fee to use a credit card for the direct ship program..

I used to order $3000 at a time until they put the limits in place, some crazies were ordering like $50,000 at a time repeatedly which ruined it for all the folks ordering lesser amounts.

Just like a Canadian posted in response to the article at this link... when Canadians accepted the dollar coin - prices instantly shot upward.

When a dollar starts being "seen" as pocket change, prices rise to reflect this. Hence the Toonie coin was then needed for most transactions. So what do you think will happen in the States if they FORCE us to accept these? Aren't prices high enough already? Thanks, I'll keep my "pocket change" defined as coins under $1.00 value.

Do we feel a little bit violated? Yes, and that's why we aggressively sought measures to eliminate what we called an abuse.

Well I suppose it's legal. I see you are still allowed $1,000 every ten days So it appears not much has changed. Stick it to the man yes, but who is really paying for it?

Quote:
The intended purpose of the Circulating $1 Coin Direct Ship program is to make $1 coins readily available to the public, at no additional cost, so they can be easily introduced into circulation--particularly by using them for retail transactions, vending, and mass transit. Increased circulation of $1 coins saves the Nation money. The immediate bank deposit of $1 coins ordered through this program does not result in their introduction into circulation and, therefore, does not comply with the intended purpose of the program.

It seems everything is a scam nowadays!

Yahoo is just recycling three year old news. It really didn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out how to work this racket and milk it for all it is worth. Congress will soon enact legislation to outlaw the practice because they are not getting any tax revenue from it. I am surprised taxing miles and rebates from $ coin sales was not part of the Obummer Health Care bill. I guess Pelosi and Reid overlooked that cash cow
