I doubt the mint would do anything about this. Mainly because most likely nothing will come of it.

None at all. Hasn't happened in many times before, won't this time either. It would be easier to get Spanish declared the state language and marijuana the state plant. IMO.

if it did become another state, the mint would not create another State Quarter for the series of State Quarters. and I don't think this will happen. what is the point of cutting california into two states. our debt is so high in california that I think this should be the last of our worries.

I don't think it would do anything to the value of the California State Quarter. It's not like it would change the coin. Maybe 100 years from now it would be worth more, but not just over night. They have talked about splitting Texas into 5 states, but nothing ever happened. It was even a clause in the document annexing Texas into the United States back in 1845, that Texas could be split into 4 additional states.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

I wish this would happen. Living in Los Angeles County which has been run by Liberals all these years, we can see where it's gotten us. These Counties that want to create their own State have their fiscal houses in order, all of them. They are tired of wasteful spending and idiotic policies. BTW, this would not change the State Quarter program IMO.

California? Isn't that one of those places West of Chicago? Are they still in the Union? What language do they speak there?

It was in the grey area and could have been seen as an invitation to cross the line. *** hehe Kidding of course...have some good friends in CA and love to visit, as long as I'm on the coast.

I saw an article on that the other day. That article closed with something this one didn't. This is the 220th attempt at dividing the state since 1848.

But since they have such huge populations they basically dictate the agenda.

I doubt it will ever happen and the article gives plenty of reasons why it will not. If it were to happen, I doubt it would affect the value of the California Statehood and ATB Quarters. However, I could see some HSN style hype in an attempt to make something out of nothing.

Technically it would be "East California" because the state is politically eviscerated down the middle, all the liberals to the left of the valley, and the gun totin' conservatives to the right. Having grown up in Barstow, I can personally attest to the fact that these parts have more in common with Idaho, Texas and Wyoming than with San Francisco or Berkeley. It also does not help that the state is broke every year, due the decades of "free" or low cost social programs that are paid out of state coffers. Someone has to eventually ante up, and this is a national crisis happening everywhere, not just in California.

Please, we need to keep this this thread on the topic of numismatics or it will have to be locked. It cannot be moved to General Discussion because the OP is not qualified yet. However, if any that has opted into General Discussion wants to start a new topic there, please do so. We have no problem with the discussion, it just has to be relevant to the forum it is posted in.

I'm listening to the author of the bill right now on KFI AM. It is doubtful this will ever happen. He states that it will be something that will go to the voters then Congress, then the President...D.O.A. Living here and watching all the ridiculous regulations on businesses and the highest taxes in the Nation, it's absolutely a shame. Businesses are leaving the State in record numbers to States like Texas, South Dakota, North Carolina, Tennessee to name a few. One Liberal Sacramento politician has set up a special task force to figure out why businesses are leaving California....What?!
