Didn't ruin anyones susprise OldDan, these boxes have been in the back of my closet for the last 20 years. I do regret now not opening them years ago, I can see now why my dad enjoyed coin collecting so much.

Sounds to me like Christmas came a little early to stmpcol's house this year.

Very nice, but was it intended to be yours or someone elses? You might want to check before you get too excited.

stmpcol if you will post some pictures of the Obverse and Reverse of the 1878 Morgan in the variety section, or in this thread I will see if its any specific variety I recognize. It sounds like you have a short type set completed and a very good headstart on a full Dansco 7070 type set (about all you are missing is some of the more modern coins and a small amount of classic ones). What condition is that 1921 Peace dollar in? that could be a good find by itself

Congratulations! Of course condition is everything, but that could easily be a $1000 type set.

Your Grandad and Dad, dreamed of this day.
That's why they put the coins in that little box.
Were you surprised, Excited and Happy?
That's what they were hoping.
A gift of love through time.
There is a great joy in hiding a treasure.

You have been blessed with an unexpected gift that was apparently intended for you? Type sets are a challenge and full of history and the fact that your Grandfather took the time to assemble this set must make them very very special as you KNOW where they came from and how long they could have been in your family! Quite a treasure!
