*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Was at my favorite "Toys are Us" for adults (Coin Shop) and this middle age man is buzzed in. The proprietor of this shop and myself have been friends for quite some time and I send him alot of business and buy quite a bit from him as well. This gentlemen (using the term loosely) states that he has about 20 Morgans all graded and slabbed MS-74. That kind of got my attention, must be a new grade they have come out with, means the collector has no clue and I am going to placed a slicked out coin in a pretty slab. Proceeds to tell my friend that all of his coins look far better than what he has in the case and what would he pay for the MS-74's he has. My friend politely tells him that he doesn't want to look at the slabbed 74's and really isn't even interested in the rest of his coin. The guy goes ballistic and starts to try to get over the counter. Myself, I am reaching behind me to extract my crowd pleaser and I look up and my friend has a nice nickel plated .357 pointed directly at the gentlemen, tells him to leave now or he is calling the cops. The guy looks over at me and starts my way and I let me see that I am also in possesion of a bang stick. The front of his pants gets wet and he bolts out of the door while dropping a couple of his supposed MS-74's. They were all slugs from electrical boxes in some whacked out slab. Have no idea where he got them, but Andy and myself had a good laugh afterwards, he even placed one in his coin counter for display... Always be prepared when out and about everyone. Oh, forgot the reason I was there. Picked up a nice Barber half, Quarter and dime to add to my collection. Nothing picture worthy, I was just feeding my silver/Barber addiction. Stay well everyone.

I reside in the only state that does not allow conceal carry. In Illinois, the criminals win.
Thanks for sharing the story.

I live in Florida, Gulf Coast to be exact. The unemployment in my area is so high that a teenager graduating from HS has to move out of this area just to find a job at McDonalds. I have security cameras at my house and an alarm system. And yes, pretty much all of my friends have CWP's as well. It is pretty much a way of life down here. Used to be back in the 80's and early 90's, you could have an open container in your vehicle as long as the drive was not drinking. Hell, we still have drive through Liquor stores in my town.....

Good one Freedom, glad everything turned out ok. You have to jump through hoops and fire rings to even own a rifle here in Jersey. Forget about Hand Guns. Its very unfair normal citizens don't have access to guns. One should be able to protect himself and at least his family. I believe a study was done on sounds that strike the most fear into burglars. The number one was, the sound of a shot gun slide, Have to love it. I hadn't been shooting in a while. While I was out of state, I took on a 10 gauge single barrel SG. An old shorty. Thing kicks like a mule. My first shot I didn't get all the way up on her, and whew.. she let me know it!! LOL

Wow, this was a situation which could have turned out badly, I'm glad everything was ok. I have also seen shop oweners wearing their handguns in a holster for everyone to see. That sends a clear message to the dishonest shoppers.

Quote: Wow, this was a situation which could have turned out badly. Only for the DipStick, The double Tap works wonders, or so I am told by my popo friends. My son is a Corrections officer, one of his responsibilities is to get a CCW prior to completing one year of service at his institution. I just piggy backed on his application, meaning I filled out the paperwork at the same time, and we both got ours in about a month. If you have a DD214, you don't have to take the class but you do have to demonstrate in front of a licensed instructor that you know how to shoot. Should have seen the look on his face when I did a triple on the target. He looked at me and said, one round would have sufficed.

Great story.
Chalk another one up for us 'first responder' citizens. The police only investigate after a crime has been committed, we prevent them.

Andy had a .357 wheel gun, my weapon of choices is a S&W MNP .40, 1 in the tube and 10 in the clip. His nickname would have been Swiss Cheese if he stepped two feet closer. Always remember these words "Officer, I feared for my life". Officer: Why did you shoot this man. Me: Officer, I feared for my life and the life of my friend Officer: Why is there 16 holes in him? Me: He kept moving after the first 15 officer.

Freedom: First time I heard about the DD214 rule. Maybe it only applies to certain States. What state do you live in?
