Newbie here and I hope I'm not posting on the wrong forum.

I got this dime in change about 50 or so years ago and have always wondered about it. Someone once said it might be a souvenir of the the 1893 Chicago Words Fair. The milled reverse is quite professionaly engraved.

Any thoughts or comments?

Thanks,
Rich

to this here community.

Nice grab from change! But that was 50 years ago, imagine something like that today.

Definitely could have come from the fair, unless it says 1293 instead of 1893.
But I think it was a fair souvenir like you said, might have even been encased awhile ago.

That's a love token or something related, and appears it once was solder at the reed edge to a chain worn as jewelery.

The chain was removed and used as a regular coin in circulation.

Pretty cool, I was looking at something similar on a Seated dime, the reverse says "Maddie" .
Macmercury is right, They would do Love Tokens out of those. That year could be the year some one was born, Married, Special event. Who knows. But defiantly a cool piece

This is a few of my Love Tokens. I am not sure this would have been used as a love token even though that is the category everyone puts them in when they are engraved now. I think a Love token would have initials on it instead of just a date. There is a great possibility that this did come from the fair but they would have been so many vendors doing them it would probably be impossible to be 100% sure
