Hi, a question about an 1884 Morgan mint mark O in VF conditions. Diameter varies 37.74mm 37.78mm 37.82 mm. Weight 26.85 Grams A Morgan should be: Diameter 38.1 mm, Weight 26.73 Grams so I am wondering if it's a real one or a fake. Is this coin within a reasonable size Weight Tolerance? Thanks The coin is actually more silver color then it looks in the pics the camera lighting turns out a bit of a yellowhish/tarnished finish.

Looks pretty good to me. That is weird about the size difference but the weight is so close. Something looks a little weird about the denticles in front of the face. Hard to tell.

May be the photo, but looks cleaned to me. I don't see where creating a fake 1884-O would be worth the effort...

Looks real to me. Probably cleaned like JackB said, but real.

Not to mention it's in a heckuva lot better condition than VF. Cleaned, I think, but very nearly Mint State. Not a high-dollar coin either way though.
I think the dies were a little misaligned when it was struck - look around the southwest quadrant of the obverse rim, and northwest on the reverse.

OP-Price? My concerns: - Yes, they do make fake common Morgans
- Coin shows up in UK
- Three different too-small diameters
- Overweight?!
It does look good, but they're getting better at that all the time. How's the reeding?

I think its within the tolerances and looks real to me, so if its fake it would be one that would probably fool me and means I need to update my counterfeit detecting skills

Ratio between 37.8 mm (this coin) / 38.1 mm (standard diameter) = 99.2% I.e., this coin is less than 1% below standard. Might I ask, what is your margin of error in measurement?
