Hey Group

Looking for advice for basic Canadian coin reading material. I'm starting to accumulate some Canadian coins and want to ensure make sure I'm dutifully educated on the subject.

Catalog - I'm guessing the best is Charlton pub. by Cross new edition out/coming out. Any suggestions on a decent purchase price?

Paper - Canadian Coin news. Is Canadian coin trends part of CCN?

What about coin prices published by Krause in monthly magazine and US Coin World publishing monthly prices. Are these just rehashing of Canadian trends?

Would membership in the RCNA be a good idea. I was turned off by the US ANA whenthey had that big costly issue with their former executive director. What were they doing with my dues money, did they through it away. How is the RCNA in this respect?

I would like to tag on to the end of your question and find out more about RCNA. Is there any educational value, or just a fun club to belong to?

I recommend membership in the RCNA. The $35 is worth it for the CN Journal alone. Some of the guys you see in these chatrooms are regular columnists and others, such as myself, publish occasional articles of scholarly research there.

They also have correspondence courses on Canadian collecting, as well as onsite courses on grading/counterfiet detection/etc. Their educational component will be expanding soon through some recent grants they received.

I also recommend attending one of their annual conventions, if you can. I recently returned for the one in Windsor. As usual, I had a blast.
