I vote yes. I have always thought that the Mercury dime was an absolutely beautiful coin, and the Mint's choice to make the new palladium coin in the form of a large Mercury dime is simply brilliant. I think that when they come out I will probably buy two or three of them.Probably two brilliant Uncirculated and one proof. I just can't imagine how gorgeous a large proof Mercury design will look. I think I have one more one ounce proof Buffalo to buy and after that I will save my investment pennies for this exciting new offering. What say you? |

You know I always wanted to get into Palladium as well. I looked at the Maple's but it would be nice to see a Merc in Palladium form. I would buy probably but not that much.

It would be good to have US coins produced in all 4 of the precious metals, so I would support such coinage. It would also be good if they could produce these in 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 oz. sizes.  |

One online dealer, shows a 1 oz palladium bar for $909.70 plus shipping, and 1/2 oz bullion coin from China for $895.00 plus shipping.

It is going to be called The Macmercury Palladium Eagle (just kidding of course). The bill is passed the House and Senate and the Mercury design was part of the legislation. It is waiting for Obama's signature and after that it's off to the mint to start production, probably a 2012 release. The obverse and the reverse are going to be done in high relief. The Eagle on the back is taken from the 1907 Architects Gold Medal. Weinman designed the Architects Gold Medal too. It is in my opinion the most beautiful rendition of an eagle that I've ever seen on any coin or medal. This is going to be an amazing coin. The mint has a write up with pictures. I can't wait to see this coin and especially in proof. Now that I've seen it I'm going for proof only. Well, maybe one uncirculated. Do a search palladium eagle obverse and reverse.

I would get one. I think it would be cool to have at least 3 oz. of P, P, and G, not to mention at least 100 oz. of silver....

Looks like it will be a beautiful coin, and I look forward to getting one, but if they are 900 bucks, that will be a problem. Maybe a 1/2 oz would be manageable...

I think so, particular if it comes out in fractional sizes the first year. I have seen the AIA medal and it is a stunning ultra high relief work, not sure if modern mint presses can accurately capture the nuance of subtle detail on such a small coin, so I may go for at least a single 1 oz. coin.

The mint can definitely handle small detail. I had a 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle in hand yesterday and the detail and shape was amazing. Unfortunately it had a lot of hairlines in the field from die polishing.

With the way that things are going in the financial world, I worry MUCH less about paying a premium on PMs than I do about losing most of my dollars to inflation. Yes, it would be nice to be able to buy PMs at little to no premium but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon. |
