Hi all
I just started roll searching nickels recently and read something about hennings. Can you I.D. them all by the loop on the "R" that I read about or is there anything else I should be looking for? I noticed this mark below the "R" on a 38 D tonight and thought I would ask before I moved on.

not all of them have the loop in the "R" but that is the easiest diagnostic. There are places you'll find spots on the coin (a dot over the left of Monticello, for example).

Henning's years were 1939, 1944, 1946, 1947 and 1953

supposedly there was one more date that was never identified as well, though no one seems to have any clue what it could be

Your coin appears to be a die chip.

There have been several threads on Hennings in the past ... try this one:

A forum search for "Henning" will turn up many more threads.

Not a die chip, damage from a hit.
