Ouch. The thing is the seller listed as is and didn't make any claims about being worth xx.xx amount or being a rare copper variety. I'm not sure what recourse the buyer will have other than leaving a negative feedback.
Edit: the seller does give a 7 day return policy but only if the coin is in the original package.

Stranger things have happened but in this case, it was more like a hit and run. At $777 I think it was the seller that hit the jackpot. But, wait and see.

I think the seller bid on it himself...There was only one bid...for $777...Don't ya think the first bidder would have bid .01? Who makes a reserve for $777....

How can you buy a '43 copper cent "as is" for $777 without some sort of certification. I would want to see the coin in hand. The pictures are lousy but the cassting/plating must be good. If it smells like .... it is .... Didn't one just sell for a few million? KK

I checked in on this one , the buyer has a 25% buy rate with this seller..makes me think it was the seller bidding on his own coin...

You're nuts if you think a 25% buy rate is any indication of shill bidding. Make an accusation like that against me with that silly excuse for evidence and you'll be signing for your mail. There are tons of buyers that only buy from no more than 2 or 3 sellers on ebay. Probably plenty of them right here.

Not certified, very bland description, oh and ebay. All suspect. Yep, shill bid.

So the fact ebay even has a box to check when reporting a listing if you suspect shill bidding, you still make a comment like that. Egads. ebay is full unscrupulous sellers and buyers.

The words that say it all... "As Is." No claims to the coin being copper. IF the buyer is real, they have 7 days to check the coin with a magnet and return it. I'm sure it's a plated coin or and it could be a shill bid, but why pay the ebay seller fee? If they did a shill bid, I would guess they thought that one bid would get others to bid. If it's a real copper '43, this is the worst seller in the history of ebay.

They can always claim that the buyer did not make payment and the ebay fees would be wiped out.
