What a shame it got hit on the last digit.

But, it does look like it could have been a 1912S

Well, using the digits 0-9, we can rule out 1, 4, 6, 8, 0. Leaving 2,3,5,7,9.
We can rule out 7, 9, I don't see the tail as getting that smushed or moved to blob like that. Leaves 2,3,5,rule out 3 and 5 for the same prior reason, and you have a 12-S. Compare the "blob" to another 1912, you'll note the "blob" is same as the bottom point of the damaged 2.

Yeah, shame it got hurt so badly, especially on the digit, almost seems deliberate.

I used Photoshop to do a date overlay. I'm 99.9% positive that it's a 1912. The slight difference in the 2 could be caused from the damage making the 2 just larger than the 2 from the overlay.

Only 99.9% sure? Are the chances really 1 in 1000 that it is NOT a 2?

You're right. I'll have to change it to 99.8%. It's a 1 in 500 chance it's not a 2, tops.

I dunno hard to tell but I think 1912 is correct. Though someone may have done this on purpose.
