Looks like a die crack and chip near the ER.

Yes--it also has a nice glob coming out from the middle of the C (in five cents)

I really appreciate all of your responses...

Now is this something I should hold onto or just throw back to circulation?

Is this the same thing? And on this particular penny is it worth something or just the value of a steel penny?

I'm in Australia and coins with die cracks are definitely collectable. I have quite a lot of them and would never consider putting them back into circulation.

I even occasionally buy ones that I desire.

Maybe there's no premium on them in the USA, but my advice is to keep any you find. Gee whiz, they only cost you face value and you don't need to feed them.

There are plenty of error collectors on this forum.
