toast Pillar of the Community Australia 1091 Posts	Posted 11/26/2006 6:17 pm That is a picture of Chiang Kai-shek. So the coin is from the republic of China (Taiwan). From the reverse it looks like a one YUAN coin which has been made starting in 1981 to present. In Extremely fine condition and depending upon the year, it is worth between 10 to 20 cents. Sadly, not "rare" - the mintage for that year is over a billion! You are 100% right. when I searched china coins at world coin gallery I found that it's Taiwan y#551 one Yuan (1981-1994)it's worth 10 to 25 cents depending on condition. Thanks again toast.
