I found a Lincoln Cent 1911 that obviously never had the "L" in LIBERTY. The rim of the coin is intact but there is no sign of there ever being an L.,,,,and the "1" in the date 1911 is misformed. Is this a common error.

On coins where there is a missing or weak letter or digit
it is usually caused from debris that was on the die in the area that it is missing. Many call this a Grease Filled Die.
I personally do not use that term as it is an assumption about just what exactly the substance present was that caused
this missing or weak letter or digit. I use the term "bebris filled die" Either way, no real premium on coins like thisexcept if one collects them as a novelty or learning tool etc. Also depends on how much of the devices are missing on the coin. As far as the 1 digit a pic. would help determine
what may of happened. Could just be damage done after the minting process or during the process. A die problem is also
a possibility.
