A few days ago I was locked in a bidding war over several lots on ebay. A seller put up several lots of coins, one of which contained an apparently BU 1919 slq (which was not mentioned in the title) and the other contained what was claimed to be a plated 1877 Indian Head cent. Hoping it was geniuine and dreaming wildly that it could be struck on Three Cent stock I started bidding. Later on I also noticed what appeared to be 1875 cent in a rather high grade in the lot as well. With only limited amounts of free cash I decided to try to play it safe and focus on winning the slq lot first since it ended first. I managed to win the lot for about , but had only 200 left to spend. Unfortunately I ended up losing the indian head lot because I was slow and not willing to sink enough cash into it. So what do you think you guys would have done? Should I have skipped the slq's and gone all out on the indian heads? I've linked the two auctions below. Needless to say I'm goin to send the 1919 out for certification and try to flip it if it comes back MS 63 or better.

The one thing that would concern me is the blurry picture of the SLQ. The seller also says circulated in the condition area. Have you received the coin yet? I am by no means an expert and I am sure some people who know more than me will voice their opinions

I was concerned about that as well, but if you look at the wide shot of the entire lot it seems like it is in mint state condition with the luster that is clearly visable. I figured a seller that is foolish enough to not include a 1877 indian head in the title of a lot would be willing to sell a mint state 1919 as a circulated coin. The coins havent arrived yet though so only time will tell.

So long as it grades at AU 58 ill break even, and if it gets a full head designation id likely profit even at AU 55.

Good luck with the grade. I very much doubt the 1877, if genuine, is struck on a CN 3 Cent planchet. Looks to well struck and nice detail for that, IMO.

People are shelling out a lot of $--all because of a pic too blurry to confirm?

It would be difficult for me to believe that '77 is legit;
but who knows maybe there's a real IHC under that plating.

well there is a money back return policy, so it's not that bad to take a risk on the indian.
