I have a bufflo nickle that seems to have an oval in graving. I'm new in coin collecting and I was wondering what is was. I think it may be a dye chip but I don't know.
Thanks for your help!

I got this one

lamination
A thin piece of metal that has nearly become detached from the surface of a coin. If this breaks off, an irregular hole or planchet flaw is left.
- from the CCF glossary

I wasn't lazy or anything, I myself forgot what it was, so I looked in the glossary.

Laminations are common but this is not a lamination, something is covering the surface of the coin.

BTW, it is NICKEL and DIE

Cant say for sure, but I am leaning towards what biokemist said. It really looks like something almost like solder or the like. You can see the outline of the lower leg under whatever it is.

the first thing that crossed my mind was a strike through but not sure about this, it could very well be solder
