I stand by my $350-$400 value and that anyone selling for the $250 price would be a fool!. I've been around a long time and am quite involved. I sold a 28 last summer to a very well respected, honest, shrewd, and Lifetime ANA member out this way for $350 in unslabbed VF and he was quite happy....

I know we are getting a little bit off topic here but.... If the auction in question has a wide enough buyers pool then auction results show what active buyers are willing to pay at any given point in time. If multiple auctions end in a consistent number it can reasonably be considered market value. In my mind the "fool" is the person willing to spend more on a coin than he could buy it for at another venue.

As far as the sellers go, there's whats known as the fast nickel/slow dime theory. It doesn't matter what you are selling as it works in any market. An item can be sold at a lower profit(nickel) quickly or a higher profit(dime) slowly. People that like the slow dime believe they do better by maximizing profit on each item irregardless of the time it takes while proponents of the fast nickel believe they do better by making the lower profit quickly allowing them to make multiple deals in the same time period. To each his own.

Well, we all had a good laugh today at the Bloomington Coin Show about this topic. Not one of us would be willing to sell our 28's in this grade for less than $350....We all wondered who or what company was purchasing.

I'll never understand why people will pay a big commission to sell through someone like Heritage, when they can get $100-200 more selling on ebay.

Because the possibility of a fake with HA is much much smaller than with E-Bay. I believe HA only sells Graded and Slabbed
coins and then only from certain TPG.

With ebay you always run the risk of a counterfeit coin in a Key Date.

Just my humble Two Cents.

As well they should, if you're going to charge me 40% more for the same coin. If $350 is your price, and the coin is less than high AU in a reputable slab, you're only selling to people who don't know better, or are willing to pay you a significant premium for your personal dealer/buyer relationship. Any time I want, I can have AU58 in a slab for $350.

Those are all AU58, in a slab, no "Details" grades, sold during 2011 by Heritage. 18 of them, in the last 8 months. 4 of that 18 went for over $350, and I've included those 4 in the list in the interests of honesty. And mind you, all of those prices include Heritage's 15% Buyer Premium (although buyers are going to know that and include it in their choice of bid).

A close personal relationship with a dealer you can trust is a wonderful thing. It's up to each of us to decide how much we're willing to pay for "wonderful."

Dave, your work on this message board is I'm sure almost unmatched and also awesome. But, could you explain to us then WHY the suggested retail prices suggested in all the trade mags including the Grey Sheet in regards to the value of this specific coin... As a comparison(I can't think of the right word exactly),,,when we sell or buy a used car we use the Blue Book for prices and then we make offers or sell accordingly, and, at auction we can buy for sometimes less or sometimes more than Blue Book prices, but, in the end we use the price guides as a reference. I would still suggest that the OP would use the well known Coin Price Guides and not base his coins value on Heritage Auctions. Also I do not like the idea of Heritage promoting through their auctions, this would seem to cut out a reputable local Coin Dealers profit to stay in business as locals are well known to be the backbone of the Coin Hobby...Cheers!

Saw this auction on E-bay and had to post it here.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-TWO-PEACE...em2a15a57437

Seems like too good of a deal to me. I realize that as of now there's 5 hours to go. But seems like someone would have bid more by now. I'm guessing fakes
Rest in Peace

Remember that it's the 1928, not the 1928 S that has the high value. For his two coins, that price is maybe a little low right now, but not by much.

Seems like these dont go up in value that fast. I purchased a 1928 Peace dollar in au-58 pcgs for $200.00 back in 1990. And everyone is saying they are only worth like $350+ right now thats not much of a gainer over the past 21 years. Now I did have a 1914-d lincoln in G6+ go from $68.00 to what like $165+ I guess there at about the same % of increase.

Put a pic of your 1928 Peace dollar and we can help

I've been getting revved up looking to purchase this coin (a nice 1928) and was expecting to pay around $300 for XF,
hoping it's actually AU, based on what I've been seeing.
