What do you guys think is a better alternative for storage? I've been using the air-tites but I'm thinking of switching them to the albums. Mostly AU or better coins.

well its according to how you want to present the coins, I think the airtites are probably the best way to preserve the coins but I also think the Dansco albums are the best way to present them for show or personal viewing so it all comes down to what you are planning to do with the coins. I have coins in airtites and I also have the dansco7070 album and I have to say I get alot more enjoyment out of the album but that could be because most of the coin in the airtites are Morgans and there is all different types in the album (not sure). Another thing you could do is get an airtite album and have the best of both worlds but still that is just a third option in the realm which way to preserve coins

Bryan, for showing them off and personal viewing I agree the album is the way to go, that's what's driving my thought process. I'm concerned that using the Dansco will provide less protection than the airtites. Are there any concerns about the plastic slide panel in the album creating an abrasion on the coins? I would also guess that album storage will create an environment more conducive to toning, agree? I will check out the airtite albums before deciding, if you know of any good links to shop them, please post.

I was in the same boat as you. I opted for the AirTites because of the added protection which I felt was more important than just viewing pleasure. I have been thinking of getting the albums for AirTites but don't know if the extra cost is worth it yet. I saw the albums as well as all the misc. AirTite supplies for sale at JP's corner. www.jpscorner.com

I'm using Airtites for my ASEs. JPs corner has them for .38c each.

I was looking at the air-tite albums, I think I'm going to try one. They're listed at air-tites.com and jpscorner.com also. It's a little tricky, making sure to buy the right size, JP's site has a very good instructional page. The half dollar album holds 54 coins (9 coins per page, 6 pages). I'll probably house my Kennedy proof collection (they're already in air-tites) and see how it looks. If it works well, maybe I'll then do my Franklins. Thanks for the feedback guys.

If you do get a Dansco album for anything, get the Archival Quality Slipcase to go with the album. It will afford more environmental protection than just the album alone, but less than the Airtites.

That is a distinct possibility. Always use the utmost care.

I use CoinEdge holders for all of my collection, as they encapsulate the coin while allowing the rim to be viewed, even in the album. I'd guess they are about as airtight as a standard TPG slab, possibly better, due to the double seal both around the coin and around the edge of the holder. The manufacturer states that they do not seal at the edge in the larger (dollar) size holders, but I'm here to tell you that it isn't easy to pull one apart once sealed. http://www.coinsafe.com/

thats the ones I was trying to think of the name of, I like them allot better than the airtites that I use, they stack very well and gives the coin a suspended in air look to it and allows you to see the edge of the coin which is important for coins which has letters on the edge (like the new Presidential dollar will have)

those are nice holders, and they don't seem to be to expensive especaly if you order 100. Superdave do they fit inside the standard 2x2 pages or do you have to buy there pages. looking around it looks like http://www.brent-krueger.com/coined...ge%20Holders has them for cheeper but I am not sure there shipping chages they might cost more depending on that but they also have them.

I use the Whitman Classic Albums for all denominations. I use the 2x2 flips for almost all duplicates not yet in an Albums. I've been doing this for well over 50 years and maybe closer to 60. I put the Albums in a plastic freezer type bag. All coins look exactly the same as they did 50 to 60 years ago. However, they may not stay that way for the next few hundred years and if there is any problem by then, I'll let everyone know.
