Can anyone help me with this? Is it an error? The quarter is actually bent in the middle with the strike on the left foot of the eagle.

It appears to just be damaged.

What about the letters that are on washington's head and left hand side? That's what confuses me. I am brand new to errors, well, collecting period, so forgive me if these seem like stupid questions.

The letters are incuse, thus a coin squeezed with another coin in a vise or hammered between two pieces of wood. Just a damaged quarter.

I think captianwiffo 100% correct, it's just damaged.

The bend could have been caused when someone forced two coins together and it could have caused the reverse lettering. Reverse lettering on a coin is usually an indication of someone trying to make a coin look like an error and the bend was caused by heavy pressure from something other than the equipment used at the mint. True error coins would have any letters from a die strike facing the same direction as the main lettering.

I don't think that the coin you have is worth anything over the 25 cent value. Sorry.

Sorry for taking so long to reply! It's been a very hectic week....

JDavis: It's a 1995-P Quarter. Someone posted an earlier response thinking it may have been "stamped" with a new Shield cent, but I have been holding on to this coin for about 3 years now.

PMD now seems all too obvious to me. Thank you everyone for all the enriching information. And thank you sooo much for being patient & willing to take the time to explain things to all of us "newbies". I have posted a few coins on another forum, and the majority of replies are either 1-2 words in length, or "smart-a*s" comments (although thre a select few that actually like to enlighten and inform). I haven't had one negative experience here. And that's awesome!

Thanks again!!
Happy Saturday :)
