Just about the same question as the gold, are these anything different than the standard issue?
Is there a different mint mark or a different planchet being used? Any special slab labeling?
I have read all the mint ad hype, which generally nets no real info.
So what's up? Thank you, Seth

You must have missed this:
2006 marks the inaugural year of the American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin Program. Struck on specially burnished blanks, this coin offers silver precious metal purchasers a new collectible version of the popular American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin and features a finish similar to its bullion coin counterpart. Each coin also bears the "W" mint mark reflecting its striking at the United States Mint at West Point.

Last night I seen on the Home Shopping Network the set of all three different W Silver Eagles in Ms69 slabbed in ICG cases were being hyped at an asking price of $400.00.

Before the Mint decided to release the W uncirculated SAE the only way to get one was in the 3 coin set (that is sold out) for $100.00 that came with a regular proof and a reverse proof, before that time there would have been 2 coins that would be considered a key coin for the series (the W uncirculated and the Reverse Proof) and some people cancelled their orders for the 3 coin set when they decided to release the W minted ASE alone because they felt it decreased the value of the 3 coin set (I actually cancelled a few myself) but now they are kicking themself (me included) since they sold out and just the Reverse Proof is selling for way more than the whole set sold for. Now about the W minted Uncirculated coin, it still will probably be a good coin to have because even though they are offering them alone plus in the special sets it will still have a relatively low mintage and down the road it may still be a key coin for the series, and it is different from other uncirculated 2006 ASE's because of the W mint mark as was stated above

Thanks, Andrew, I read the mint hype at the mint. This "specially burnished" was the ringer that threw me.
Bryan- Well I ALMOST did as you and dumped the five sets 3-silvers I have on order. I already have four but didn't realize I shouldn't have opened the box to get them graded as a set.
Now I am in a quandry. Sell the sets as they are for $170-190 they are fetching? Grade out the reverse proof for $15-20 and sell it for $100 plus, then sell the other two? Have the next five sets graded as sets and see how they sell? Heck, this is getting too much like work!! (I did have a dealer tell me he'd give $300 for a graded set since he couldn't get any more. Hmmmm...)
I have 15 of the new UNC silvers coming in an early order so should get them all. Any reason to grade them out or just leave them in original packaging? I don't see a rush for these.

I picked up two of the "W" uncirculated ASE. Frankly, I have too much stuff on order from th Mint and nothing is expected to ship until 12/8(2 Anniversary sets). I also have a San Fransisco Comm BU on order. But I think the "W" coins are a good collectors choice. I am personally in love with ASE.

Any coin with a LIMITED mintage is a good choice but the U.S. Mint seldom does LIMITED mintages. The Silver Eagle from 1995 with the W mint mark was struck only 30,125 times. That is limited and until the U.S. Mint actually starts producing LIMITED issues most of what we will continue to see is nothing more than hype! France limits many commemoratives to 10,000! Canada has followed suit by lowering mintages which usually guarantees a sell out for their mint and a strong secondary market THAT WILL LAST far past the intitial hype market.

Before you sell them a full set for 300.00 after you have them all graded you may want to check here and look at what just the Reverse proof is selling for in PF70 (wether it be NGC or PCGS) http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=reverse+proof&category0= . It is my understanding that most of these are grading 70, but heck even if its a 69 that one coin is still fetching close to 200.00 by itself and the W minted Uncirculated coin is selling for about 140.00 by itself in 69 (dont know about 70) http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...search&fgtp= so if you sold them seperately you could probably get more for just those two coins than the 300.00 he is offering. I am in no way trying to tell you what to do, just want you to know what the possibilities are you may be giving up

While on the subject of american eagles !
I was curious if Fred can tell me if this part of an ad I found would be considered possible. As far as obtaining uncirculated us mint Silver American Eagle rolls for the entire period 1986-2006 ?
Question is: Does the u s mint sell rolls of eagles to say like Dealers Only?
The ad below is the claim Or is it just a phishing come on ?
If you act now, there is still time to secure the entire series of Silver American Eagles (1986-2006), including the coveted first year of issue 1986, while specimens still remain in gem uncirculated condition. Ask your Account Representative for details!

I am not sure but when I usually see these words "THESE COINS WILL NOT BE SOLD BY THE U.S. MINT DIRECTLY TO THE PUBLIC.", I tend not to believe it. You should check on ebay to see if there are rolls of ASE for sale.

It sounds like a bunch of hype to attract the non collector. The wording reminds me of the commercial that they usually show on weekends, with the vault and the salesman saying that the American Eagle Gold 1/10 th ounce will never be sold again. Yet it is on every weekend.

The U.S. Mint sells PROOF only silver eagles or special packaged Eagles as we are seeing now. The 1986 thru 2006 Unc. Eagles are available ONLY through authorized dealer network. Most dealers keep the eagles in stock and many do sell on ebay.

Only US Mint bullion network dealers can obtain ASE rolls. The rolls come out of "green monster boxes". The boxes contain 500 ASEs in 25 tubes of 20 each. The rolls will be square white plastic with a green cap that has the Treasury seal on it. http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...search&fgtp=

Here is 2006 Rolls. http://www.mintproducts.com/index.a...OD&ProdID=11You can also buy a 2006 Monster Box for like 8 grand. Now for the other ASE, it says below their price, that when ordering a quantity of 20 they will be in a mint tube. I dunno if it will be a SEALED mint tube....CAll and I'm sure they will clear it up/ This is how I have seen it done on a few websites. APMEX does it like this to.
