The following is a release from the US MintUnited States Mint Announces Plans to Issue American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set WASHINGTON - United States Mint Deputy Director Richard A. Peterson today announced plans to issue a limited-edition five-coin set to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the popular American Eagle Coin Program. Peterson made the announcement at a coin forum held at the American Numismatic Association's World's Fair of Money® near Chicago. The United States Mint American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set will include five one-ounce American Eagle Silver Coins: * one proof coin from the United States Mint at West Point * one uncirculated coin from the United States Mint at West Point * one uncirculated coin from the United States Mint at San Francisco * one reverse proof coin (frosted background with polished, mirror-like design elements/foreground) from the United States Mint at Philadelphia * one bullion coin All five coins will be mounted in one custom-designed, highly polished, lacquered hardwood presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. The United States Mint plans to produce up to 100,000 American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets with a household order limit of 5 sets in effect. The United States Mint expects to begin accepting orders in late October. A price has not been set. As with all products containing precious metals, pricing will be set as close as possible to the release date and is subject to change throughout the life of the program. The United States Mint introduced the American Eagle Silver and Gold Programs in 1986. The obverse (heads side) design of the silver coins features a modern rendition of famed sculptor Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty. The Walking Liberty design was originally prepared and executed for the circulating half-dollar in 1916. The reverse (tails) design, by former United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti, features the heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.

Yay! I have the 2006 20th Anniversary ASE set, and it is just magnificent. Good work, US Mint!

Wait didn't they already get the 2011 proof out? Anyways, I wonder if the SF coin will have a mintmark.

The unique coins will be the S-mint marked ASE and of course the reverse proof. That coin (see my avatar) is a real work of art. The other 3 coins have either been released (or soon will be in the case of West Point unc on 9/29) at the mint and elsewhere. I will guess this will be a $299.95 set IF silver stays around the $40.00 mark. Best news from the Mint all year!

Thanks for the post, sounds like something to have. Do these usually sell out right away; was the aforementioned 2006 also limited to 100,000 sets?

Oooh, I am not a bullion collector, but I've always wanted one of those reverse proofs. This would satisfy my itch on getting all the ASE types.

I love that their coming out with this set. It hurts after the rapid release of ATB 5oz. Looks like Ill have to drop my subscription with National Park Quarters. It was time anyway, I mean $50 come on! Two release's at a P and D 100 coin bag with a 2 roll set, would cost just about as much as this new 25th anv.set I can't wait!!

It's been a big year for silver from the U.S. Mint... 5 oz. on this, 25 oz. for the ATB pucks, 1 oz. for the proof ASE, 1 oz. for the uncirc ASE. That's 32 oz. of silver (not including the silver proof sets) and I'm probably missing some. Regardless, I'll definitely be in for this one. The 20th set is awesome and I imagine this will be even better, with 3 more ounces. :) Save those pennies! (Well, the ones you're not hoarding, anyway) ;)

I wonder if this new set will pull up the price of the first 06 set. New collectors or buyers learning about the latest set might go looking to see if theirs any others. And /Or collectors who didn't buy the 06 set but buy this latest one, might give them enough ummfff to go after the 06.

This will be the first time the mint will sell a bullion coin directly to the public. The big question for this set is will the uncirculated San Francisco have a mint mark.
