coin in very bad shape..i think its a 1802 but not sure on the 2 part..this is best pic I can take..let me know what you think.it is just to right of scratch in pic...

Looks like an 8 to me vice a 2. Can you tell if it's a Classic Head or a Draped Bust? The 2 in the 1802 Cent is very pointy and angular - not rounded like I think I see on this coin...

i beleive it is a draped bust..and I do think you are right on that being an 8...thanks for the help..i think the only place for this one is my copper pile...

If the third digit is a 0 (looks like it) and the last digit is an 8 it can't be a draped bust; the classic heads started with 1808. That's about the lowest grade large cent I've seen. I can't even be sure of the design, much less the date. I'd unload it and look for a nicer example of whichever variety you would prefer.

I can tell that it IS a draped bust, I that means 1800, 02, or 06 and I think it is an 02. is there anything on the back>

To my inexperienced eye, it looks like the top of a 2 or a 3. A 3 would depend on the font though since some 3s have a flat top rather then a curved one like this typing.

All The 1803 cents have a flat top 3.

I would also agree that this an 02 and not an 08. Copper pile is the best place for this bad boy

Dude, you're going to scrap that coin? It's over 200 years old! They dont make them anymore and its worth like only 10 cents in copper! Save it!
