I got a couple of Gold Buffalos in the mail yesterday. They were MS70 (so, probably 69?), but I got them at regular 10T gold coin spot that CNI is selling them for.

Anyway, ANACS did not mark them First Strike--well, almost. Do not know if it a knee-jerk to the law suit or what.

These are marked in the narrow upper band as "...MINT FIRST STRIKE." But, on the blue label they say, "FIRST DAY RELEASE."

Actually, this makes more sense. They get the box, check the shipping date and mark the coin accordingly. More truthful than "First Strike."

It makes sense. How exactly can the TPG know what is freshly struck other than some kind of shipping date on the packaging from the mint? Pretty bias I say, but I don't think the TPGs really have much clue when they look at the coins. They don't have the technology to detect microscopic details of the status of the die impression on the coin.

Just because the coins were shipped on a certain date doesn't mean they were a first strike, because they strike many many coins before their release so the first day of release would get rid of the legal issues with the "first strike" thing but still means absolutely nothing when it comes to the quality of the coins

First strike first day ? it all sounds the same to me !! like the TPG's are trying to influence the market with hype.

There is no way of knowing how many times the dies were changed on the first day ,, there is no way of knowing how many times the dies were cleaned and polished resurfaced or what have you at the mint,,nor what day the coins were minted on in the production run for the release date.

Wow on ebay it comes up with 809 items of first strikes. Is amazing and the tpgs jumped on this without using the first protect yourself slab. LOL Any ways it is in the hands of attorneys they will make their money while also finding loopholes for others. I guess there must of been a rush to the trademark office and the domain names for this. Maybe the trademark and domain name could may be worth more than the coins themselves.

A duck is not a goose, a goose is not duck, and construct is still a construct. And it even rymes.

Why in the world does it make any darned difference what day a coin was made or what strike it is? Most coins purchased from the mint are extremely high grade in the proof and bullion programs. The grading companies have looked for ways to suck the blood out of the collectors in this country since the days they were "invented" and as long as the collectors continue to take the "bait" they will keep hyping new ideas. This amounts to nothing more than thousands of collectors looking for "bragging" rights when there really isn't anything to brag about. Keeping up with the Jones' or the next door neighbor is foolish and child like behavior because in the end NOBODY really cares. I have said all along collect what you want and that which fits your budget! Avoid modern day hype as that is just what it is. ALWAYS keep in mind SOMEDAY you may want to sell your collection or specific items and to do so you MUST have a buyer! The FIRST DAY STRIKES are about to sink like a pirate ship and THEY should as there have been, if I remember correctly, 178,000 bullion coins designated as first day strikes. Come on folks, this is MORE than enough evidence to understand the impossibility of the whole program. Nothing more than greed at its finest, by the grading companies, backed by imaginary and hyped prices!

I agree crystalk. But I also think there could be a second part to it and it's the sadder part. Doesn't First Strike suggest something unique? And yet, how can anything offered in mass markets be unique? Is this how desperate people have gotten in this puking world of Bimbo Brittneys and commodified Wal-mart junk? So desperate that they'll even accept something as "unique" when it can't be. It doens't seem to matter anymore whether something is fake or not as long as it looks good or sounds good. Doesn't it look good when someone can show their lumpen neighbor a "First Strike" ASE? Doesn't "First" sound good?

Fake "uniqueness" has been going on for so long it's become our culture. Do I even have to mention the "unique" presidents we elect every four years? We might as well put a Leprechaun in the whitehouse. Why not? At least that really would be different.
