Not a Numismatist, but have quite a few coins to identify and check values. Have heard that "The Bluebook for US coins" is best. Cannot find one in bookstore. Any suggestions appreciated, and any good ideas on cleaning some very soiled coins will be helpful. Thanks.

Don't clean the coins! . 99.9% of the time by doing so, you will greatly decrease the value of your coins.

For approximate, and relative values of coins you go to https://www.numismedia.com

Thanks LastGold. Very helpful site you gave me. Understand cleaning destroys value, but some of mine found on salt water beaches are so bad you cannot recognize much at all - scratches, corrosion, etc. Have heard that some people boil in water and then soak in olive oil. Make sense? Thanks again.

We all forget that sometimes.
Normally do not clean coins. However, from what you describe some minor cleaning may be necessary. If you feel you must, start with just distilled water. If that does nothing you may want to purchase some Acetone and try that. IF you do, first go to the Search tab at the top and do a search for coin cleaning, cleaning coins, Acetone, Jewlery cleaners for lots of info.
As to a book or magazine on coins. The so called Blue Book is from Whitman Publishing and is basically the lowest prices on a coin that is humanly possible. They also make what is called the Red Book. If you go to the Whitman web site you could sse a vast quantity of books on coins available. But do not purchase one from them since they would charge you the full price listed. Cheaper ones of either are normally available at Amazon.com , coin stores, some used book stores, hobby shops, Walmart book web site and lots of other places.
