all right so going into my 3rd year almost in collecting I was wondering which set I should tackle next. I search rolls a lot and thus all of my sets I am working on now I rarely buy coins for. I have sets of -Lincolns -buffalo nickels (slowly buying and finding) -jefferson nickels (5 holes left) -roosevelt dimes (15 holes left) -jfk halves (9 holes left, 8 of which are NIFC coins) -I also have IKES, SBAS in a whitman that I would one day like to get a dansco for -I have a bunch of mercs ready for a set as well but I don't have a dansco for them. I have about 30 different dates and mms
now the question is what set will be easiest and cheapest to put together if I was to go out and start buying them -indian head pennies -liberty nickels -barber dimes -washington quarters 1932-1998 -standing liberty quarters -barber quarters -franklin halves -walking liberty halves I don't care the grade of the coins, as long as they are readable dates and mms and the coins don't look like they have been dug out of the trash I would place them in a dansco set. I like the look of all the coins, so that doesn't need to be taken into account, neither does grade. If there are a few key dates I could pass on them and have an almost complete set. What do you all think. thanks GOO

Of the sets you listed, I'd think Franklin halves would be a pretty easy set to put together. The 1955 is the "key date" but it's not that hard to come by, especially if you aren't too hung up on grade.

I agree that the franklin is probably the cheapest and easiest to complete but you should probably go with the set that appeals to you the most.

Yeah Franklin halves would be the cheapest, then Washington quarters. If they are cheapest thus they are easiest. You can also find a few of these sets from roll searching.

Franklins definitely. You can get most of them in AU for not much above melt. If you don't insist on full bell lines you should find them in Mint State for not a lot of money. According to the NGC price guide the most expensive coin in MS-63 is the 49-S at $88. Most of the other 63's range from $25 to $45 with a few higher. In 64 the 49-S is $105 with the rest in the $30 - $80 range

I have found 4 franklins, 2 walking liberties, over 30 washingtons and 2 indian head pennies from circulation. It would take me forever to get these sets from circulation. Washington quarters would be the only one I would try and think I could make some progress at. I think I might buy the washington album dansco next start filling it, but will think about looking into franklins at the next coin show I attend. I am going to see what kind of prices and what kind of coins I can get. Might try and tackle that set. How hard are the Standing Liberty quarters? In all honesty I like the look of those maybe the best out of the group, but not by much. Any ideas if anyone has tried them or frequently buys them?

YUP, I posted about this very thing not long ago. The Frankies have no real key dates and I filled my album with AU+ for just over spot on avg - most between $14-$16 just a few months ago. My favorite local shop had many of them in a $15 each bin I raided regularly. NONE were at all hard to find for me. I only paid more than 16 for like 6 of them and the most was 20 for a couple UNC ones I "splurged" on. Other than those you listed already, many cite V nickels. But there are 3 major key dates that make that harder than it sounds. If you "skip" those then I'd agree with them. But what makes Frankies better, IMO, is that you can get them ALL in AU+ for such a small amount over spot. Almost any other set you have to buy ( out of circulation so long there is no other way ) have some pricey members in there if you shoot for AU+ grades. I spent a couple "not so small" fortunes on a nice herd of Buffs and full Walker album. BIG BUCKS! Only one I "skipped" was the 17/18 buff which I refuse to acknowledge - LOL. My avg grade is a tad over XF in both, tho a few really pricey ones I could only manage VG-F grades in. Good Luck.

nothing against Mercury dimes, or Buffalo nickelsthey are both already so high on my list that they have already been started I am working on the Mercs and Buffalos together I wanted to stay away from silver because it has gotten so expensive, doesn't look like it is going to drop for a while now though so I figured I might jump into a little purchasing here and there BTW I think Mercury dimes and Peace dollars are the most beautiful coins minted by the US I think the next purchases I will make are -mercury dime dansco -washington 1932-1998 dansco -Franklin half dansco...then its all about filling the holes
