Ah. Late night. Wanted to get your opinions on these. I think I paid a bit on the er... strong side, but here's to hoping I won't have to kick myself too hard. This is one of those "you versus NGC" things. Thoughts on grade? There is a large shallow hit on the cheek you can barely make out in this photo. It's only distracting from certain angles. Does she make PL or DPL/DMPL? Edited by Scropper 08/29/2011 12:41 am

with these pictures and the toning.. MS63 would be the best...I could see MS62 depending on how new the grading was done...

It has a great strike.
I don't see many hits.
I think it should be a MS64/5 but probably grades MS63.
My guess would be Semi Prooflike.

I think this coin was given a MS-63. The coin is probably semi prooflike which is typical of this issue.

64, and a good one. I doubt they called it PL, but that's a tough call from photos.

I'd call it MS65 in terms of strike, luster, and contact marks. Certainly shallow cheek abrasions have not disqualified other Morgans from 65 grades at NGC and PCGS. However, I'd dock 1 point due to the obverse fingerprint. Some reflectivity is present, especially on the reverse. So, MS-64 PL.

62, but I'm conservative. Are those fingerprints on the obv?

Yes, those are fingerprints. They don't detract much for me, the "cameo" effect is quite striking on this one - the fields dark gray to black and the face in gold.
To me, it looks to have at least very nearly the same reflectivity as the 81, so I had it pegged for 64+ DMPL. It's in an NGC holder at 64.
Thank you very much for all of your assistance. It's been a great learning process for me. Again, I overpaid, but it's on me. $200 to SSEC - I didn't catch the guy's name. I honestly couldn't tell if he was a straight shooter or not but I liked the coin so I popped on it.
I got another piece from the show I'm a bit worried about, I hope you all will continue to help me with that one. Then I'll share some others just for fun that I'm very happy with. A couple of pieces more in my line of understanding.
I have to go try to take pictures now.

despite the fingerprints, the fields appear quite clean.
