actually any coin at all.
are there error coins that have no reeds.
I have some halves that are beat to !@#%, consistently throughout the coin like wrinkled skin, but all details are visible (hair, rims,) just have no reeded edges, not a trace.

Most likely those halves were used in casino slot machines.

Looks like that one's just super-circulated, probably a casino piece like mycrob said.

From roll searching, I have seen many halves that look similar to that one. I don't know if it is just the halves that I have been searching or if others have noticed the same but it seems like halves from the 1990's tend to be more beat up than halves from other decades.

I agree with the others on the slot coins.
I live in Mass. and even though the 2 big casinos down
in Conn. stopped using the half dollar coin in their slots
and went to a card etc. many are still floating around in rolls from bank vault stashes. I used to find them by the ton
years ago but not as much lately. Perfect example pics posted.
No reeding and all wrinkled up etc. Never found a silver slot coin though.

Probably slot machine action.

Indian1 When silver went out of circulation in 1964/65 90% of slot machine play was nickels. That is why you may see a lot of older nickels chewed up.
