In truth, I think the bidding is already very close to the true value of the coin. This one's going for moon money, worthy or not.

This and the Charlotte five the seller has are both very nice. Years ago I had one each of the five Liberties from Dahlonega and Charlotte. Both were in VF condition and today they are worth nearly four times what I had paid for them then. Of all the coins I had back then those two gold pieces were the two I never should have sold. Oh well, life goes on. Ed ANA LM-3175

I agree with Bobby, the Charlotte definately appears to be polished when you look closely at the fields. I made the mistake of purchasing a raw $5 gold piece on ebay once that had been polished. Luckily the price of gold has risen to the point where my loss is erased. I am always a bit weary these days of purchasing uncertified gold on ebay.

the 1853-D just has some honest wear and was probably dipped once a while back.
The 1850-C... definitely polished.

I really think thr 1855D has an original surface. The 1850C looks polished. Indy you keep talking about selling but never about price. with SuperDave probably sky high. But nice and un graded.

Way overpriced at almost $7000 final bid. Looks like an original AU-55 to me, worth maybe half of what it went for.
The 1853-D is about the most available Dahlonega half eagle and although this one looks well-struck and original it's not that hard to find. I expect the seller is very happy.

The 53-D and 44-D are probably the most available. I agree, near $7000 must make a happy seller.

I did not mean that the Dahlonega is polished to oblivion like the Charlotte, but I'm betting that in hand it has been *lightly* polished which still cuts the value in half. I have a Barber half dollar sort of like this, and most people would probably just say its been lightly cleaned which isn't true. The surfaces just look off.

Wow, that went for silly money. My faith in ebay is restored.
