Well, I'm down to the final four Early Commems : Missouri, Hudson, Old Spanish Trail, and Hawaiian. I absolutely love the set so far, but the remaining cash outlay is going to make these final four really stretchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh out . @NickelSearcher - Do you any of the remaining four as extras? @capt wiffy.... There are some GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRReat BU's up there now. In this case "Go for the Silver"..... I'll be posting a 41D tomorrow that has a good chance at MS67 FB. You need shades to look at it!

Sounds like you have the determination, just a matter of saving and finding the right deal - it will happen!

I can't get enough of those WWII-era Denver dimes! I can only assume they were polishing the dies with angel feathers back in those days, and that dealers were stacking up rolls like cord-wood. Every time I see a real gem I want to bid on, I go "Oh, another '43-D. Maybe I could justify just one more..." But I still need a '41-D, so I will bid for sure.

Excellent news on your progress paleoguy45. What a fabulous set we are both working on ... wonderful coins filled with history, art, stories and political intrigue. As you are well aware the final four you listed are tough on the wallet ... but reasonably available on the market. I'm curious what grade you are aiming for in this set? ... not trying to pry ... but in my experience you will not find a circulated example of the Hudson and Old Spanish Trail ... I've been looking for over 2 years and have never seen either coin in less than MS. Quote: @NickelSearcher - Do you any of the remaining four as extras? Again ... I suppose this depends on what you are looking for. I have a PCGS MS64 white lustrous Hawaiian that is part of my current type set but slated for upgrade whenever I find the 'right' MS65/MS66 example ... no issues with selling the current coin ... so I suppose this can be considered 'available' if you have any interest in a $3600 FMV coin. Alas ... I sold last week an absolutely lovely PCGS MS64 Hudson ... blast white and perfect ... I upgraded my set to a PCGS MS66 Hudson ... sorry I missed you on that one. Wishing you the very best as you work to complete the set ... would truly enjoy seeing some photos of the coins you have so far! Great fun this set is! David

Thanks for the reply NS. I am doing a BU set (about 90% MS64) with one exception. The Pan Pacific is an AU-58 but a wonderfully toned one. There are already a couple I want to upgrade including Grant and Maine. I think the Maine commem has a somewhat flat obverse to start with, but I will be looking for another. The Hawaiian will have to wait until I sell some this' and thats' I'm willing to part with for the greater good. Paleoguy

Hang in there Brother ... from your reply I would truly enjoy seeing some of your coins and slobbering over another collector's set. This is a tough set to pull together ... Price in MS grade is the main barrier ... as is finding coins that meet your (our) visual impact needs. I've been pursuing this set for over two years, and still lack two MS coins (Grant and Cincinnati). I have photos of my classic silver set on the PCGS Registry site ... you can find it around #48 called 'No Toning Classic Set". Feel free to check it out and see how my set has been progressing versus what you are working to accomplish. I suggest we are in this quest together ... not many folks are willing to invest the time and $$ to complete this set in MS ... so in that regard I respect and salute your efforts. Hoping to see some photos of your coins ... and best wishes indeed for you to find the final four you need in condition that make you happy. David

Just won what appears to be a great looking Hudson, albeit RAW. There is a return policy.... And then there were three....

Excellent ... Congratulations. I can feel your joy ... and I know from personal experience what a challenge that Hudson is. IMHO ... the Hudson Half is for sure the absolute funkiest design ever to be released by the US Mint. Gotta love Chester Beach design on this one! Still waiting for some photos to slobber over. OK David... Here's one you may like. There are just a few light hairlines on the reverse and it was graded MS64+:

I like it too, the Cincinnati is one of my missing examples.
